About us

About Us
_______________________________________________

The CT Foundation is a non-political, non-profit, non-communal and non-governmental organization has been established by a small group of highly competent professionals aiming at providing an Institutional Platform of conducting policy research, promoting advocacy, awareness and disseminating policy ideas and issues linked with the use of land in Bangladesh.

General Objective
_______________________________________________

The general objective of the CT Foundation is to provide an Institutional Platform to address the problem of land use in Bangladesh, with the focus upon a particular solution, called Compact Townships, involving the provision of urban facilities in rural areas in small, flood protected and eco-friendly townships. While Land is posited as the fundamental constraint in the development process, it is recognized that there are many resource constraints facing Bangladesh, particularly Water.

Specific Objectives
_______________________________________________

• To maintain and develop the “CT Foundation” as a research, policy, teaching, training institute.
• To conduct research and disseminate policy ideas on social, political, environment, governance, poverty, human rights and others development issues
• To raise awareness among the general public about the programs/activities that are beneficial for them.
• To engage in evaluations of project and programme activities of the foundation and other organizations.
• To work for the benefit of the environment in terms of focusing on environmental pollution, land use change, forest management, access of the people to common property resources and to promote biodiversity conservation.
• To participate in disaster management in different localities and to assist in encountering post-disaster impacts by promoting Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) activities.

Strategies
_______________________________________________

• CT Foundation is a non-political, non-profit, non-communal and non-governmental organization .It works for the service of the welfare and development of the society.
• To partner with Non-Resident Bangladeshis (NRB’s) and with the Government (GoB), research organizations, Institutions or Universities, both local and foreign, to carry out research, training or programme activities.
• To network with other organizations and institutions (local and abroad) that have similar objectives and interest in conducting training and research in social and development issues that are innovative, and to serve as a resource centre .
• To publish books, monographs, periodicals and papers on the subjects studied at the Institute.
• To arrange seminars, conferences, symposiums, workshops etc regarding related fields.

Vision
_______________________________________________

CT Foundation envisions the planned and governed society through its activities (e.g. policy research, advocacy, awareness & promotions) for a better society addressing all sorts of challenges and possibilities

Goals
_______________________________________________

• Bangladesh (BD) has 150 million now and is expected to grow till it has 250 million. Where will the people live?

• To provide homes for the new people, BD is losing 1-2% of agricultural land every year—how will the people be fed if this continues?

• And yet, BD can grow at 10% for the next thirty years. The CT foundation seeks to turn this vision into reality in three steps. Each step is based on the thought that the fundamental constraint in BD is land.

• First, turn BD into a rice exporter within five years(this is the best guarantee of food security)

• Second, provide urban amenities for rural people through Compact Townships, or CT’s for short(a solution to the problems of urbanisation, floods, industrialisaton and agro production).

• Thirdly, to change land acquisition laws by giving ‘shares’ to the losers and thus converting land acquisition into a ‘win-win’ proposition(advocate a win-win model of land acquisition for public projects)

The Compact Township Idea

• An agglomeration of houses, hospitals, schools, markets, rural industries and local governmental units with all basic services for about 20,000 people.

• It is to be largely self-governing and self financing.

• The size is small enough for traffic within the CT and access by NMT.

• MT will be isolated from the CT and make it environmentally friendly.

Bangladesh Need (CT) Now

• Bangladesh is losing agricultural land every year for horizontal growth in housing.

• Faster urbanization is attracting more migrants from the rural areas. Make urban areas less livable and less productive.

• Unemployment in rural Bangladesh.

• Organize the country’s economy for modern economic growth-which need infrastructure.
